Nadia Sminate, Party member of the New Flemish Alliance (NV-A), will be in three years the first burgomaster (mayor) of Moroccan origin in Belgium, under a coalition agreement that was signed in this regard between local representatives of parties that won the municipal elections of 14 October, in the Dutch town of Londerzeel.
With respect to the coalition agreement, the Belgo-Moroccan will succeed in three years the current Mayor Jozef De Borger and will lead the Municipality of Londerzeel for three years, until the next elections in 2018
In the municipal elections of 14 October, Nadia Sminate led the list of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) in Londerzeel, a town of 18 000 inhabitants located about fifteen kilometers north of Brussels, and managed to collect more than 21% of votes.
Affiliated to the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA), Nadia Sminate was elected as a member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives in 2010.
Born in Belgium to a Moroccan father and a Flemish mother, Sminate, 31 years old, obtained a Degree in Roman Philology at the Flemish University of Brussels (VUB) and she is currently Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives of Belgium.
