Journomania.net is an alternative source of news, established by Iqbal Tamimi, Founder and Director of Arab Women Media Watch Centre in UK, to reflect Arab women journalist’s news and views. Tamimi is an exiled Palestinian journalist and a poet. She worked in different media establishments for the past 17 years and totally committed to human rights, people's right of self expression, women empowerment and ethical journalism.

AWMW (Arab Women Media Watch) founded in 2006, is a network of professional women of British Arab heritage working in the mainstream British news media and in the British Arab ethnic media.

We seek to network with all women journalists and media professionals who work in the British Arab ethnic media or mainstream British media. We are a non-political, professional network.

We adhere to the professional journalist’s code of ethics. We network with many British and Arab journalism associations and professionals.

Our efforts include running our online magazine, Journomania.net, aiming to highlight and expose corruption, bias, and discrimination against women journalists and media professionals.

We campaign to support training and updating the skills of Arab women journalists.

Provide inspiration and empower Arab women journalists through highlighting news of awards and journalists’ achievements around the world.

Connect professionals with Arab women journalists for interviews, job opportunities and commenting on news and current affairs.

Circulate post graduate and training opportunities, scholarships and studentships offered by Universities and media institutes to journalists and media professionals.

Participate in the preparation of the annual conference held in Amman- Jordan to highlight Arab women journalists concerns and Arab media.

Campaign and seek partnerships to strengthen our campaigns and activities.

Promote and encourage participation of Arab arts, literature, sports and other events and activities in UK communities and vice versa

Outstanding journalism on the impact of multiple deployments on military families, bullying, campus rape and the failure of the military to address traumatic brain injury won recognition in this year's competition for the Dart Awards for Excellence in the Coverage of Trauma.

Photo: Sonya Hebert/Dallas Morning News: A five-part series on the impact of multiple deployments on military families was the focus of the Dallas Morning News Dart Award-winning entry.

The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, a project of the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, today announced the winners of the 2011 Dart Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma.

This year’s winners are the Boston Globe, The Dallas Morning News, NPR with the Center for Public Integrity, and NPR with ProPublica. Honorable mentions go to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and WLRN's "Under the Sun ." The 2011 winners will be recognized at a public ceremony on April 27 at the Columbia Journalism School. Each winning team will receive a $5,000 cash prize.

Very little is known by the western societies about the interlocking mosaics of the Arab societies from different backgrounds and faiths. The majority of western audiences see Arabs through recycled exaggerated scary images of aggressive people driven by sectarianism. For that reason, I thought of shedding some light on the respected roles and contributions of Arab minorities such as Jews and Christians to the drama and theatrical arts, before the creation of Israel that created a wedge in the heart of the Middle East. This article is only offering a glimpse of how respected and admired they are.
