THE LIBYAN: An art exhibition in London

  • PDF

The Libyan exhibition in London, curated by Noon Art and supported by the British Council, is bringing together, incredible works of arts for eight living Libyan artists from both genders. The Arab British Centre will showcase the creative work of Libyans from 24 years old to 67. Their unique and individual perception of oppression is expressed through painting, short films, photography, sculpture and installation art.

The mixed show will offer the audience a sample that reflects the Libyan’s preoccupations, a portrayal of the Libyan lifestyle and culture, Libyan women’s beauty, political oppression under Gaddafi and the promises of the recent February Revolution.

Colourful and exotic, this exhibition will challenge preconceptions and claimed lack of creativity in the newly liberated and emerging free democracy. The Libyan artists are finally free to express themselves without fear of censure or reprisals.

Noon Art is an artistic venture between two Libyan women, Najlaa El-Ageli and Nessrin Gebreel, who dedicated their time to let introduce Libya's art and artists to other communities through the Libyan exhibition, their debut project.
