Oman will spend OMR19m (US$49.3m) constructing 38 buildings to house Omani Women Association meetings, the Social Development Ministry has said.
The Gulf state, home to 54 women’s associations, has already constructed 16 dedicated buildings. The new multipurpose halls will enable the groups to hold activities and events and boost income, Oman’s state news agency said, citing the country’s undersecretary of the Social Development Ministry.
“The ministry considers these and other associations as very important arms for the development of social work in the country and contribution to its development. These associations will play an active role in woman and child issues when they have proper premises,” said Dr Al-Ma'awali.
Tenders for the projects are expected to be issued later on this year.
